5. maj 2017

Søndag d. 30. april var der arrangeret "Memorial Matches" for skolens nyligt afdøde crickettræner Flemming Balstrup.

Crickettræner Gee Mitchell har skrevet om afviklingen dagen og resultaterne af kampene:

The week previous to the match on 30th April was horrendous. Rain, hail, snow, more rain and windy. You could see water standing on many parts of the grassed areas. Oh no! was heard on many lips. But...Flemming must have taken The Big Boss on one side and said something like..." Sunday! Sunshine! No arguments! ". And it came to pass.
We had 2 spectator tents and, thanks to Ulrich who is opening a licenced coffee shop soon on school grounds in an historical building, a coffe shop tent for players and spectators.
The morning match, a league match between CC Soranener and Bellahøj, was distinguished by a young school player standing in for a CC S shortfall. Her name is Clara Louise Yatman and she took 2 wickets with her bowling, helping CC S to a victory. All connected to the Akademi should be proud of her.
The afternoon match was between our current student team and a team of " recent old boys ". Although a serious competition, the aim was for everyone to get to bat and ball and have FUN to honour the memory of Flemming. 16 members of his family were there to enjoy and support the event including his wife Beth and his elder brother Torben (90). The school was represented by Sven Bjodstrup.
The match itself was played with the proper spirit being more important than a display of text book tecniques. Recent old boys batted first scoring a total of 67 in their 22 overs. The school's best bowler being Fahad Khan with 4 wickets. The others did their best. Batsmen's scores were between 8 and one single.
Going into bat, the school team stated well enough ( Mubeen Nawabi actually scoring a 6! ) but finished with drama and disappointment for the home team. Disaster started with the embarrassing dismismal of their top batsmen ( no name here! ). This dismissal was the beginning of a hat trick for bowler Oscar S, his hat trick wicket being their other top batsman..( definitely no name here! ).
It was a very close run match with recent old boys winning by just 5 runs. Match statistics show that top scorer by far was by a name appearing on both team lists, namely Mr Wides. Despite this statistic, everyone got a go and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
A presentation bat prepared for the event ended with 58 signiatures from players and spectators and was graciously presented to the school by Flemming's family.
The glorious day was rounded off with dinner provided in the school dining room.
